Independent, nurturing care with dignity and respect

"It’s our job to make someone feel safe and happy in our care.”

- Josh, Director

The Sands is unique in that it offers three types of care in one location.  Each of our floors (Keswick, Grasmere, Langdale and Derwent)  is a unit dedicated to a specific care type, be that dementia, nursing or independent residential. We are perfectly placed for those looking for care homes in Morecambe.

Situated on the magnificent Morecambe bay, our views are unrivalled and the natural tonic of being by the seaside is valued by all of those with us.

We combine the professional training and experience of on-site clinical teams with the compassion and nurture of our daily carers.  This provides a home that it not only safe for those who need support, but also one in which they can thrive and participate in life fully.

All care units benefit from our on-site kitchen, laundry and hairdressers and we have an on-site activity coordinator to make sure every day is filled with opportunity for stimulation.   Each unit has its own tastefully-decorated lounge and dining area, with shared communal gardens and nursing station (where applicable).

We make time for our residents and bring their day to life in homely, cosy homes with daily access to community partners, friends and family.  Whether a shared meal, a moment remembered or a passion pursued, life does not stop at The Sands.  It’s only just beginning.

Types of care at the sands

RESIDENTIAL CARE

Our residential care on our Keswick floor is designed for those who are able to continue some level of independent living, but with the security and companionship of on-site staff.

Personal care needs are taken care of by our qualified carer and 24-hour support is on hand to help with daily life.

Comfortable shared spaces such as our lounge and dining room are available to use freely, with daily activities taking place and Thursday our special activity day where you will find karaoke, bingo and even the odd tipple!

NURSING CARE

Two floors (Grasmere and Langdale) of our care home in Morecambe are dedicated to nursing care here at The Sands.

Our nursing care includes round-the-clock support for residents by a team of Clinical Leads, Matron, Registered Nurses and the support of professional care assistants. You can rest assured that all medical needs are taken care of, including drug administration and daily checks.

This unit ensures first and foremost that those living with us are safe and well, leaving our care team to provide daily stimulation through use of our shared living spaces, communal gardens and activity programme.

Personal choice is always respected here at The Sands, and residents are free to participate as much or as little as they would like.

DEMENTIA NURSING CARE (EMI)

Our Derwent unit provides crucial specialist care to those living with dementia or conditions that impact mental capacity. With the utmost of dignity and respect, we ensure our residents here are able to live as individually as possible but within the boundaries of safe care.

We offer specialist activities such as our “magic table” – an interactive light display designed specifically for those with dementia to interact with – and enjoy offering our residents to access our bright and airy shared spaces, where we regularly hold special events created specifically for those living with dementia.

CLINICAL LEAD OF GRASMERE NURSING FLOOR, THE SANDS

THERESA

My first responsibility is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents, through leading a team of nurses and carers and liaising with matron and management.

I enjoy the love and care we can provide to residents when not with their families. My speciality is organising activities and I can often be found on the microphone leading a game of bingo or karaoke!

CLINICAL LEAD NURSING FLOOR, THE SANDS

TESS

I am in charge of looking after residents and staff to a high standard of care, in personal dressing, nourishment, health and appearance.

We are the first line in ensuring residents are monitored for any changes in health issues. I have been caring for almost 20 years and have worked across elderly and EMI units. I have great respect and time for the elderly, and love reminiscing about their previous lives – especially when they have been nurses themselves!
